Question of the week
The Euro
Latvia became the European Union (EU) Member State on May 1, 2004 following positive vote at the national referendum on membership. The Treaty of Accession also envisages that Latvia will introduce the euro. Although to introduce the euro Latvia has to comply with several economic criteria defined by the EU Member States in the Maastricht Treaty signed in 1992.
Euro changeover target date in Latvia is January 1, 2014. To facilitate timely performance of the euro changeover related activities the Government approved Latvia's National Euro Changeover Plan and Euro Changeover Perspective.
The euro changeover in Latvia will be a common project of the whole state - public administration institutions, organisations, entrepreneurs and citizens. We can ourselves ensure as effective and convenient euro changeover as possible timely acquainting with information about the euro changeover process and performing ourselves for it.
